We’ve reached that bittersweet time of year when the end is in sight, but the challenge is real. After surviving those mind-numbing state tests, it’s like herding caffeinated cats to keep those middle schoolers focused on learning. But fear not, my fellow math warriors! I’ve got your back with 5 fun and low prep end-of-year math activities that will keep your students motivated and excited until the final bell rings. Let’s dive in, shall we?

1. Brain Break for After Testing: 100 Piece Puzzles

Picture this: your students finally finish those grueling exams, and their brains are begging for a break. Enter 100 piece puzzles. They’re challenging enough to keep their minds engaged, but not too overwhelming. Plus, who can resist the satisfaction of completing a puzzle masterpiece? To give them an extra challenge, I don’t show them the picture of the puzzle!

I found my puzzles at Walmart but Five Below and Dollar Tree probably have great options too!

2. Brain Break for After Testing: Motivational Coloring Pages

And while you’re at it, throw in some motivational coloring pages. Let your students unleash their inner artists and color their way to mathematical zen. These coloring pages are grat for the period when students are one with testing or just as a brain break!

3. Financial Literacy: Everfi FutureSmart Course

It’s time to teach your students the math that truly matters in the real world. Introduce them to the wonderful world of financial literacy with the help of the Everfi financial literacy course: FutureSmart. This course is really immersive and gradually walks students through all types of financial literacy topics including smart shopping, budgeting, and credit!

The best part? It’s free and integrated with Clever!

4. Financial Literacy: Buying a Car Project

And to take it up a notch, let them practice buying a car. Sure, they might not be old enough to hit the open road yet, but who says they can’t navigate the treacherous waters of car buying like a pro? This is also a great opportunity to have them practice Simple Interest, writing a check, and percent problems! This is not just great at the end of the year, but it would also be fabulous as a wrap-up to your consumer math unit!

5. Get Creative: Create Your Own Color By Number

Grab this color by number template and quickly add your own questions. The questions could be fun like “What does bruh mean?” or use some math review questions.

6. Get Creative: Create a Math Board Game Project

It’s time to unleash their creative genius with end-of-year math projects. Have your students tap into their inner game designers and create their very own math board game (free download here). They’ll experience the thrill of strategizing, problem-solving, and outwitting their opponents while sharpening their mathematical skills. This math game project is pretty open-ended so students are free to get as creative as they’d like!
